A Neglected Legacy: Intellectual History of Crimean Khanate

✨ Next Monday (February 13) at the Ukrainian Culture Seminars we will welcome a lecture by Dr Mykhaylo Yakubovych (Freiburg University, Germany / Coventry University, UK) on "A Neglected Legacy: Intellectual History of Crimean Khanate. What does the World Know about Crimean Tatar Philosophy?"

The intellectual history of early modern Ukraine is usually seen in the context of European Renaissance influences on science, education, and culture, while especially the "Eastern" tradition represented by the Crimean Khanate (15th - 18th century) remains virtually unknown.

The lecture is going to cover the main cultural heritage of the Crimean Khanate and southern Ukraine as a whole, incorporated into a framework of the Islamic philosophical life in Late Medieval and Early Modern times.

Based on a few important manuscripts, this research is finally answering the question of how distinctive features of the Crimean Tatar philosophical tradition finally became a point of connection between East and West.
